ICRC jointly with Osh State University opens the first IHL resource centre in Ferghana Valley
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) continues supporting academic institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic in efforts to promote international humanitarian law (IHL) in Kyrgyzstan.
In cooperation with Osh State University, the ICRC opened the first IHL Resource Centre on the south of the country and the Ferghana Valley. Some 1000 students from southern oblasts will benefit from up-to-date literature and works of world scholars in the sphere of international law and humanitarian norms.
Active in the Kyrgyz Republic since 1992, the ICRC has been providing support to the universities in the country by replenishing library stocks of IHL literature in the past, organizing regional IHL competitions for students as well as methodological training for instructors of IHL.
For more than ten years, the ICRC in the Kyrgyz Republic has made a wide range of audiences aware of IHL and humanitarian principles as well as the mandate and activities of the ICRC, which are enshrined in the Geneva Conventions and the Statutes of the ICRC. Specific audiences include the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence, executive and legislative authorities, academic circles and Law Enforcement Agencies.
