On February 6 of this year, the Department of Clinical Disciplines of the International Medical Faculty of Osh State University together with 4th year students organized a small program dedicated to the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) – coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Typical symptoms of MERS include fever, coughing and / or shortness of breath. Pneumonia is common, but some people infected with MERS virus have reported no symptoms. Gastroenterological symptoms, including diarrhea, are also recorded. In severe course of MERS, respiratory arrest may occur, which requires mechanical ventilation and support in the intensive care unit. Mortality among people with MERS is approximately 35%, although this estimate may be overestimated, as mild cases are sometimes overlooked by existing surveillance systems. Currently, there is no vaccine against MERS-CoV or specific treatment. The treatment is supportive and depends on the clinical condition of the patient.
